ABOUT US

Berrend Dance Centre has gained the reputation of being one of the Washington Metropolitan Area's finest dance schools. The Centre is under the direction of Patricia Berrend, former Associate Director of The Washington School of Ballet. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her 28-year association with The Washington School of Ballet, as well as from her professional dance career and involvement with the local dance community. Her exceptional ability as a teacher has been nationally recognized by such institutions as the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the National Foundation for the Arts. Berrend's former students are members of dance companies worldwide and, with her coaching, have received numerous prizes and awards in the most prestigious international ballet competitions.

 

Director, Patricia Berrend is the recipient of the Youth Grand Prix "Outstanding Teacher Award" in  2004, 2015 and 2020.

DANCE CURRICULUM

Berrend Dance Centre offers a full and varied curriculum with instruction in all disciplines of dance for students of  all levels.  BDC has an excellent team of instructors and maintains small class sizes to encourage the development of talent, confidence and self-discipline through individual attention.

designed to build strength, flexibility, endurance and technique.

OFFICIAL SCHOOL OF OLNEY BALLET THEATRE

Berrend Dance Centre is the official school for Olney Ballet Theatre. 

"I danced at this studio from age 4 until graduating high school at 18 years old. The teachers, students, and other affiliated individuals feel like a family to me, and have taught me so much, not only about dance, but also about the professional dance world. The instruction here is unmatched by even bigger company summer intensives and classes I've been to, and I feel that they can take a student at any level and completely turn their technique around for the better. I currently attend SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, and can attest to the edge having a classical ballet background can have on any style of dance. I love coming back and taking class with the students, they're just as good, if not exceeding, the talent level of some of my classmates at school, which is inspiring to see."  -Gianna B.
