
ACADEMIC YEAR.
PROGRAM
Berrend Dance Centre offers a full and varied curriculum for students at all levels with instruction in: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Modern Dance, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and Pilates. We boast an excellent faculty from the most prestigious companies and university programs and we offer small class sizes, encouraging the development of talent, confidence and self-discipline through individual attention.

INTRODUCTION TO BALLET
MUSIC & MOTION
Ages: 4-6 years old
Description: A playful, imaginative introduction to the elements of dance. Imaginative exercises, songs and movement games are used to explore concepts of space, time, rhythm and a wide variety of movement skills appropriate for the age group. Leads into the ballet curriculum.
Length: 1 hour. One class per week.
PREPARATION FOR BALLET
Ages: 5-7 years old
Description: Students are introduced to basic ballet vocabulary, learn classroom etiquette and develop coordination through fun movement exercises.
Length: 1 hour. One class per week.

CHILDREN'S BALLET DIVISION
ELEMENTARY BALLET 1 AND 2
Ages: 6-9 years old
Placement By Audition
Description: Full ballet classes including barre and center work. Proper alignment and careful, efficient use of the body are emphasized with continued development of ballet vocabulary.
Length: 1 hour. One class per week.
LEVELS 1-4
Placement By Audition
Description: Graded classes consist of complete barre, center work, allegro and adagio combinations. Continued emphasis on proper body alignment and turn-out. A minimum of two ballet classes per week is required for all students who wish to build the strength necessary for pointe work. Level 4 is a pre-pointe and beginner pointe class. Students are individually evaluated before starting pointe. Additional classes in Modern Dance, Jazz and Tap are recommended at this level.
Level 4: Minimum of 3 classes per week.

INTERMEDIATE BALLET DIVISION
LEVELS 5 & 6
Placement By Audition
Description: Complete graded ballet technique classes, including pointe work. A minimum of two Technique/Pointe classes per week for Levels 5 and 6 are required. Additional classes in Modern Dance, Hip Hop, Jazz and Tap are recommended at this level.
Levels 5 and 6: Minimum of 3 classes per week.

TEEN BALLET
Ages: For Older Beginners
Description For the older beginning ballet students or those who have studied dance in the past and wish to return. Includes ballet technique. Class pace is determined by the composition of the class (Beginner/Intermediate).
Length: 1.25 hours. One class per week.
LEVELS 1, 3 and 4
Ages: 8-11 years old (Level 1); 12-14 years old (Level 3); 15-17 years old (Level 4)
Placement By Audition
Description: The program will emphasize male specific ballet training by focusing on athleticism, discipline, core strength, and agility. The goal of the program is to provide a secure and supportive environment for young male students to learn the classical ballet art form. Through the vigor of the curriculum, the students will learn not only the elegance of ballet technique, but strong character and good work ethic applicable to everyday life as they learn about respect, camaraderie, and self-expression.
Length: Level 1- one class per week. Level 3 - two classes per week. Level 4- one class per week.
All boys accepted to the program will receive a full tuition scholarship towards the first school year of enrollment. Subsequent years’ scholarships will be merit-based.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL DIVISION
PRE-PROFESSIONAL I AND II
Placement By Audition
Description: A program for the most serious and advanced students. The Pre-Professional program offers daily classes in Ballet Technique, Pointe, Repertory, Pilates, Modern Dance, Jazz, and Tap, as well as Master Classes. Ballet training in this division focuses on perfecting technique and developing artistry. Students may attend any and all Dance Centre classes. Unlimited Hours

MODERN
INTRO MODERN/MODERN 1 & 2
Description: An introduction to modern technique and movement.
Length: 1 hour. One class per week.

MODERN 3 & 4
Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: Builds on the Introductory Modern course, expanding modern vocabulary and movement.
Length: 1 hour. One class per week.

MODERN 5 & 6
Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: Builds on the Modern 3 & 4 courses, expanding modern vocabulary and movement.
Length: 1.25 hour. One class per week.

INTERMEDIATE/PPI MODERN
Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: An advanced level class for Pre-Professional I students and others with intermediate modern dance background.
Length: 1.5 hours. One class per week.

ADVANCED/PPII MODERN
Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: An advanced level class for Pre-Professional II students and others with strong modern dance background.
Length: 1.5 hours. One class per week.

JAZZ OR TAP
INTRO JAZZ OR INTRO TAP
Description: Increases body awareness, coordination and style while building strength, flexibility and endurance through lively jazz or tap combinations.
Length: .75 - 1 hour. One class per week.

INTERMEDIATE JAZZ OR INTERMEDIATE TAP - Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: Increases body awareness, coordination and style while building strength, flexibility and endurance through lively and challenging jazz and tap combinations.
Length: 1 - 1.25 hours. One class per week.

ADVANCED JAZZ OR ADVANCED TAP - PPI/PP2
Placement By Director/Instructor
Description: An advanced level class for Pre-Professional I and II students and others with comparable tap or jazz background.
Length: 1 - 1.25 hours. One class per week

CHARACTER
Description: This curriculum of classical dance technique is the stylized representation of traditional European folk dance. The movement, technique and music is an integral part of much of the classical ballet repertoire.

HIP HOP
Description: Hip Hop provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements and technique in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment, utilizing music from various genres including R&B, House, Club, Pop, and the latest Hip Hop hits.
Length: 1 hour. One day a week.

PILATES
Description: Pilates helps promotes flexibility and strength through a series of exercises designed by certified Pilates Instructor Karyn Worthing.
Length: 1 hour
Berrend Dance Centre welcomes adults of all ages to enjoy the benefits of dance. The Centre offers adult classes in Ballet, Tap, Zumba and Pilates as a fun way to get fit and gain dance experience in a pressure-free environment.
